It's a three-day weekend! Sadly, our friends in Louisiana aren't enjoying the same weather we're having. Here's hoping the levees hold this time. We've been lazing about here, went to a fair yesterday and ate baked potatoes and funnel cakes. Mmmm...funnel cakes. Anything is better than work, and a three-day weekend is what has gotten me through the last 2 weeks. This is a busy week coming up, with my in-laws dropping by to visit, a memorial service for my grandfather at the end of the week, and 3 days of work to contend with in the meantime. Also, trying to do some research on Cape Cod, as we're taking a trip at the end of week for our anniversary. Never been there, so it's a blank slate for us. In the meantime, kick back, relax, and enjoy a bonus day off.Labels: anniversary, job, labor day, vacation
I'm back at work after a long 4-day weekend. We traveled this weekend to visit friends of ours a few states away. We got stuck in construction, cussed about the quality of the roads, had a close call with some tools falling off the back of a firetruck, and had a great time. I still haven't lost my fear of driving, so it makes for some interesting experiences when we switch drivers. I freak out over weird things. My spouse does a good job talking me down when I start to get that way. We came back last night to a ratty looking lawn, unpacked the car and went to bed. While I would have liked a day to recover, at least it's Tuesday already.Labels: vacation
Sorry, I've been lax in my posting since the kitchen unveiling, but we took a small vacation to Arizona in the interim. Between work and tearing apart the house, we needed some downtime to recover. And it was a lot of fun. I now know more about cacti than any one not living in the desert should. We took in 3 rounds of golf, which helped to knock off the cobwebs from a long winter, and in the time we were away, we missed a whole bunch of spring. There's a law in our household that if we go away, the weather back home improves immeasurably, and it held on this trip. And the alternative, when we return it goes to crap. That also is true. Arizona is a lovely shade of beige, with lots of highways, and tons of good restaurants in Scottsdale. Not sure I would enjoy the place nearly as much at 110 degrees, but 85-95 is workable.Labels: vacation
The countertops are being installed as I type. Sitting at home, doing my job while grinders grind away. A little loud, but better than being at work. I still haven't been fired. In fact, I have a vacation coming next week. About damn time if you ask me. One of these days I was gonna snap and get myself fired. Things stay the same at work, but my frustration with it keeps growing. And now with this home project nearing an end, I won't be able to get my ya-yas by drilling holes and sanding walls. I need to take up martial arts or something. I need to vent my anger constructively. Else, I'll end up with an ulcer, and to what end? In the meantime, I bring you new countertops, wonky plumbing, and broken drill bits.Labels: job, kitchen, vacation
I haven't been posting much this week, but it's because I'm on vacation. This is the first vacation I've ever taken when I've been by myself. When you're married, you just sort of assume it's a joint vacation thing, but I had time left to take. So I'm by myself on vacation at home. Which hasn't been too bad. We did a small road trip over the weekend, mostly to go to a car show, but it's more vacation-y than sitting on your butt at home. Though, there is something to be said for sitting on your butt at home once in a while. It's relaxing. I'm not at work. If I want to do something, I can do it. Vacation is a good thing.Labels: job, vacation
I did come back from vacation, and sure enough, work was still here. And, it seems the bad weather returned with us. It rained far too much yesterday, which made coming back in today all that much worse. That being said, I'm doing okay. A little tired, no sunburn, and two rounds of golf under my belt. I went to Sonic, I went to Waffle House, and heard the word y'all alot. Great place to visit...but I wouldn't want to live there. I'll take snow and ice and hills. I'm used to it.Labels: job, vacation
It's been a lovely couple of days on vacation. Plenty of sun, I'm a bit pinker than I was before. Blistered my feet in walking way too much in my sandals. I'm still feeling the aftereffects from that. And, it seems that in making some breakfast reservations yesterday that the woman got the impression that we were on our second honeymoon. That gained us a free cake (luckily, no singing) at our character breakfast experience this morning. April...September, what's a few months among friends? Oh, and did I mention the Garmin? We rented from Avis, and the commercial where the guy professes his love to the GPS computer is so very true. She found us a golf course (it could be a he, but it defaulted to a female voice), our hotel, and some lovely Mexican food. It's so much more relaxing when the computer is doing all the navigating.Labels: GPS, vacation
Just like always, the weekend went by in a blink. Of course, having a bunch of snow thrown at you doesn't help. This winter will never end...it goes from warm, yeah it's melting to boom, we lied. So instead I turn my expectant face to the impending vacation next month. There will be golf. There will be sun. There will be in-laws...but did I mention golf and sun? And to top it off, I'm not totally out of the bracket competition at work. While I may be in 4th at the moment, my best possible score is still higher than almost everyone. Meaning...it's just a matter of time. Oh yes, I even forgive you Wisconsin for wrecking an entire division.Labels: NCAA, vacation, winter
When I was in law school, we took one nice vacation during a spring break. Money was an issue, and of course you have law school weighing on you with exams coming up, but it was still a vacation. After I graduated it was the Bar...and the Bar...and the Bar...and no job, so no vacations. How can you plan your life when you have that sort of scythe hanging over your head? Now? I have a job. I passed the Bar. We've cleared up the whole car thing...so that leaves, you guessed it...a vacation! And sure enough we've planned one for April. It's not exotic, but it's not here. And that makes it a vacation. After 4 years, I think we need one.Labels: vacation
Yes, I do seem to still have a blog after all. I honestly got twitchy not being able to blog these last few days. Guess I'm not ready to get rid of the blog after all. Let me get you caught up as to what all happened in the interim.
Like half of the free world, we got snow last week. Lots and lots of snow. Enough snow to keep both me and the spouse home from work. And, because we never go out on Valentine's Day proper, it didn't effect our plans at all. We had gone out for dinner the night before. Mmmm, peppered tuna. I learned on the snowy day that I in fact do work harder at home than I would have at work. I had one break for lunch that lasted all of 20 minutes, but billed 10 hours for the full day. My eyes ached. My couch may never forgive me for the dent I put in it.
Fast forward to the end of the week. Saturday found us making the final decision on the car. We gave Nissan one last shot as well as Volkswagen. (Note: If we walk in the door looking for Audis, don't try and put me in a Jetta...do I look broke to you?) And the winner is....the BMW 328xi. Yes, I have become a stereotype. And you know what? Don't care. The car is that nice. Now, I only have to get over my fears of driving again and I'll really enjoy it. With all the additional snow and ice around, I get freaked out just riding in cars at night, let alone try and drive one. I'm just going to have to suck it up. Of course, I heard on the news this morning that there was a fatal accident not very far from our house last night where a kid hit a telephone pole. I just shuddered.
Today finds me having a long awaited day off. Thank you Federal banking holiday. I have my blog back, a new car on the way, and a day off. I'm happy. Here's hoping it carries over to work tomorrow.Labels: car, vacation
