According to Blogger, this is my 1000th post. I haven't decided on whether this is a good thing or not, or even if this is a milestone at which I should stop at. Either way, I'm going to write about what I had originally planned, which is why I suck at being a single person. Now, no need for anyone to worry here, I'm still happily married...in fact earlier this month we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. But, as like this week, when my spouse leaves on a week-long business trip, I turn into a moody sulking single person. The only constant is me going to work everyday (and on time too), but other than that...I'm at loose ends. No idea what I'm going to eat for dinner, what to do in the evenings, I just sulk and mope around the house, or the mall, or in my car. Everyone around me finds it rather funny that I can't cope alone, especially since I was an only child, but hey...now it's a joint thing. I need someone to bounce dinner ideas off of, to talk into going to the mall, into going out for an ice cream cone. Me alone sucks. But I did run the dishwasher. Got to take those small victories when I can.

I know some of my fellow bloggers are diehard athletes. They run marathons and go on long bike trips. I play golf. That is the extent of my athletic-ness. I never played a sport in high school or college, I never ran in gym class unless they made me. Add to that a sedentary lifestyle and I'm effectively turning into a blob. To that end my spouse and I made a decision that something needed to be done going into winter. This was partially sparked by the fact that golf season is quickly coming to an end, and that we walked a local course last weekend and suffered greatly for it. So, we bought an elliptical. Yes, one who does not exercise is somehow going to find time to do something un-sedentary in the comfort of my own home. So far, I've ridden it for approximately 5 minutes. In flip flops. Every long journey begins with one step....yadda yadda. But can you give me some helpful tips, advice, or even a couple iPod playlists to make this more tolerable? We're working on hooking up a TV, but in the mean time, I'm staring at stuff in our 3rd bedroom that has accumulated over the years, and that's not compelling at all.

The bug is missing. That's the one highlight of my Monday. The weekend was far better though...after 3 seasons and much swearing, I finally broke 100 in golf. Okay, it was a 99, but it was a 99! I've signed up to play in a tournament, so the fact that I've dropped my handicap by 6 points this season cheers me greatly. When my game is good, it looks great. I do fear however, the season is nearly over. I woke up to weather in the 40s. I'm wearing long sleeve shirts again. It's still sunny, but wow, I didn't want it to get cold this quick. I still have golf to play!

I have a large bug in my office. It's not as large as a palmetto bug, but it's prehistoric looking with 7 legs. (I'm saying seven because one of the associates looked at it and counted, but I think she's wrong and I don't want to find out.) It was hanging out on the window, which is plenty far from my desk, but that wasn't good enough. Now, said bug is hanging out in the light fixture above my head. Did I mention it flies? Yeah. And occasionally it wants to get comfy so it flies around in the light, scares me half to death and stops. No one will help me out with the bug. Some find my issues with the bug rather humorous. I don't like that. I've freely offered my bug to them in hopes that they get the same enjoyment from the bug that I do. No takers. But, it's Friday...perhaps the bug will perish by Monday.

Today is the first day of school in our district. We have no children, but I know when the buses come, because we have a well-attended bus stop on the corner of our property. The high school bus comes by by 7:00, and the middle school bus usually comes by no later than 8:10. This morning, I left for work only to find 3 forlorn middle schoolers calling the middle school on their cell phones trying to find out where their bus was. It was nearly 8:30. I hated when that happened as a kid, mostly because we didn't have cell phones, and it involved finding a parent and getting a ride halfway across town. It was usually really cold when this occurred, not the first day of school. That being said, I was missed by a school bus on my first day of kindergarten. It was truly traumatizing. This group could have walked to school...it really isn't that far. And having driven through the rest of the neighborhood, I think it might have just been them who missed the bus. I would have walked. But hey, that's just me.

Here's hoping your Labor Day weekend was swell. Ours included plenty of golf, a lot of walking, a speeding ticket, and a forgettable hotel. The ticket was a real bummer since we were in the middle of nowhere, on an unfamiliar road, without a clue as to what the speed limit actually was. That same road also led to a white-knuckle ride down the side of a mountain on a seasonal-use road. And yes, the hill descent control on the BMW actually does work...but I was still scared. So now I have to make calls and draft letters in a lawyerly fashion in hopes of rectifying the situation from the weekend and stop feeling bad about it. This is why I went to law school after all, to fix tickets.
