Today is the first day of school in our district. We have no children, but I know when the buses come, because we have a well-attended bus stop on the corner of our property. The high school bus comes by by 7:00, and the middle school bus usually comes by no later than 8:10. This morning, I left for work only to find 3 forlorn middle schoolers calling the middle school on their cell phones trying to find out where their bus was. It was nearly 8:30. I hated when that happened as a kid, mostly because we didn't have cell phones, and it involved finding a parent and getting a ride halfway across town. It was usually really cold when this occurred, not the first day of school. That being said, I was missed by a school bus on my first day of kindergarten. It was truly traumatizing. This group could have walked to school...it really isn't that far. And having driven through the rest of the neighborhood, I think it might have just been them who missed the bus. I would have walked. But hey, that's just me.
