Here's hoping you have a Happy Halloween and that all the good candy ends up in your bag.Labels: halloween
It's the beginning of the end. Last night while traveling back from a lovely dinner out with friends my car dinged. Nothing bad with the car mind you, but a warning that the temperature had dipped to 37 degrees. This prompts my car to flash a warning with a snowflake in a triangle. This made me very sad. Winter is here even if it hasn't snowed yet. My car went bing.Labels: car
I've been obsessing about a couple things lately. One, I don't have a briefcase. Now I don't bring work home very often, but I've been known to bring stuff to work in a plastic grocery bag. Tacky? Maybe. Now I'm not talking a Zero Halliburton carbon fibre attache, but something that could hold a laptop, my PDA, my phone...the normal accouterments of the job. Second, I have business cards now, but no business card case. I've been looking in vain for something cool and unique, but without much success. Maybe I'm shopping in the wrong spots. Wasn't I supposed to be gifted this stuff when I graduated? Hmm?Labels: bag, job
I've had my car now for 8 months. I love my car. It's fun to drive, responsive, and it gets alot of looks. Cool thing about my BMW is that for the life of my lease everything is included, right down to windshield washer fluid. And since I work right near my dealership, it's easy to stop in and have it taken care of. Back a couple months ago, I did stop in for a fill on the fluid, and the guy asked me if I was having problems with road noise. I used to drive a GM, so I said to him, no I don't think so? Turns out my lovely Bridgestone Potenza run-flats were prone to wearing out fast. Really really fast. Forums were full of people screaming about them wearing down to the cords before 15,000 miles. So fast in fact that they were willing to replace them for me for free before 10,000 miles. At the time I had 5,800, so I said I'd be back before the deadline, but no reason to jump the gun. But then I became obsessed about road noise. Was it in fact loud? Was it getting louder? We went out in someone else's BMW a while back and realized that damn, our tires were loud. So today I dropped it off, and in fact just picked it up. And wow, it's quiet. Holy crap. I suppose when I first got it it was this quiet, but it's been ever so slowly creeping up in volume. It's like a brand-new car all over again! And they washed it too...and detailed the wheels. Nice touch.Labels: car
I live in a land of chain restaurants. They're incredibly popular. The average wait on Saturday night was approximately 2 hours. We settled for something basic and decided on Pizza Hut. We can usually get into Pizza Hut without much of a wait. And we did. The place was nearly packed when we arrived, but most parties were well into their pizzas, so we figured it'd be okay. Ordered up a standard combo, 2 mediums, order of breadsticks and an order of cinnamon sticks. We're told pretty quickly that they're out of cinnamon sugar for the sticks and no thin-crust pizzas. Would we take 2 orders of regular breadsticks? Sure. Bread is good. And it slid downhill from there. While we actually got our breadsticks and pizzas, entering patrons were being told the bad news. They were out of breadsticks all together. And then out of medium pizzas. Then out of large pizzas. All that was left was personal pan pizzas. This is early on a Saturday night. How does a Pizza Hut run out of pizza? Did they ever reopen Sunday? Is there something more sinister going on? Was the truck hijacked? I'll never know, but I got one of the last pizzas Saturday. And it was tasty.Labels: pizza
I haven't been posting much this week, but it's because I'm on vacation. This is the first vacation I've ever taken when I've been by myself. When you're married, you just sort of assume it's a joint vacation thing, but I had time left to take. So I'm by myself on vacation at home. Which hasn't been too bad. We did a small road trip over the weekend, mostly to go to a car show, but it's more vacation-y than sitting on your butt at home. Though, there is something to be said for sitting on your butt at home once in a while. It's relaxing. I'm not at work. If I want to do something, I can do it. Vacation is a good thing.Labels: job, vacation
We're having a war of the thermostat here at work. My boss refuses to turn on the heat, even if not currently present in the office. One of the associates whines incessantly about the cold when the boss is not present. I'm not that associate. So, they sneak into the office and turn up the thermostat only to have the boss, upon arrival, click it off immediately. And so it has gone for a while, only to have it escalate yesterday. Seems the boss has taped the thermostat box shut. Which now just seems to further aggravate the situation. I've been good, kept myself out of this...but the insanity is so not needed. Just get a sweater, will you?Labels: job
For those of you have been regular readers since I started my first attorney job, you might be aware of my issue regarding business cards. We don't have any in-person client contact here, so it's not that desperate a situation, but still everyone else in the office has them, so I thought it be nice that I was given the same courtesy. I started my job last December, so enough time has gone by that I have gotten good and angry over this slight. Each month I'd ask, and each month I would be told it was being looked into. And another month would go by and the cycle would repeat. I got sworn in back in May, and thought perhaps that would trigger me getting them, since I was no longer pending admission. And no, that didn't work.
Finally, two weeks ago I put my foot down. I have a couple events coming up, and I really hate having to explain why I don't have a card. It's bad enough I can't explain what I do, let alone where I work. So I set a deadline. Either get me cards by the end of the month, or I order them myself. And Friday, after lunch...what did I come back to find on my desk? You betcha. Cards. 4 hours before my set deadline. So, perhaps I'm not a temp after all? Who knew!Labels: job
