I just read on the news that my favorite road race of the year, the Dakar Rally, has been cancelled due to security issues. Namely, after the killing of four French nationals in Mauritania before Christmas caused the French government to advise against travel to the country. Nine of the stages of the rally pass through Mauritania. More ominous though, there was supposed threats against the race and its competitors by "terrorist organizations." This saddens me greatly. I've posted about it in the past, to the point of making comparisons to life and law school. The last great race on Earth and it gets taken down by terrorism. So much for a New Year. Labels: Dakar
