Each morning on the way to school one of the local radio stations has taken to playing "Darling Nikki" as covered by Foo Fighters. I'm usually not one for cover songs, but something about Dave Grohl trying to emulate Prince just cracks me up. I know he's a huge fan of Prince, but I think what's even funnier is now this song can be played on the radio. When Prince's version came on the scene, it caused Tipper Gore to found the Parents Music Resource Center. She saw it as one of the signs of the apocolypse. (This also brought John Denver, Frank Zappa and Dee Snider to appear before Congress, but I digress. If you want to see the list of the original 'Filthy Fifteen', look here.) Now, a girl masturbating with a magazine in a hotel lobby is no big thing. And yes, I do own a copy of Purple Rain, and yes I've always liked that song, and yes I do sing along in my car. However, I think my version of Dave Grohl's version of Prince loses something in translation.
