Now that I've been working for a while and back into the driving everyday thing (it had been a while), I now feel the need to harken back to one of my original onuses (onii?) for this blog, ranting about traffic. Not car traffic mind you, but foot traffic. It's called jaywalking. Do not jump out at me between cars. Do not think that just because you don't feel like hiking to the corner to cross that this place is as good as any. If the light is red for you, do not walk against the light and smile at me while doing it. Normally I'm a sane human being. However, these days I'm living on the edge here. If you catch me at a bad moment who knows if I'm going to see you? Between you and my car, my car will always win. Always. Remember that.

I keep finding myself panicking about the Bar Exam. And I've been it through it before. It hasn't impacted my sleep yet, but it's just a matter of time. It's harder this time, and not because I'm working. It's because everything I read I've read twice before. It's like permanent deja vu. And you don't know if it's sticking this time around. I just keep plugging on and hope to hell this time it works. I don't want my family to write me off if I screw this up again.

I've been busy today doing marketing things. For instance, collecting news clippings and putting them in binders in date order. And making indexes. And making those indexes pretty. Having fun with office supplies. Trying to come up with new exciting uses for binder clips. My goodness do I have binder clips. Some previous owner of the desk hoarded them in mass. I have big clips...I have little clips. I have medium sized clips too. If the world needs saving involving binder clips and post-it notes, I'm so there.

Happy Summer y'all! I had a firm event this morning and being the assistant marketing guru I was there to make sure everything went swimmingly. And swimmingly it did! A good time was had by all that showed up. And I have the reports to prove it. So since I came into work early, I got to go home early. And when the weather is gorgeous on the longest day of the year, what do you do? Go play slow golf. It's not that we're bad, it's just we're slow. I don't know why either. Even with a cart we're damn slow. We didn't even lose that many golf balls. I need lessons about pace of play or something. But who cares, it was summer and beautiful, and I had ice cold Gatorade in my cart. Gimme my 6 iron, I'm hitting for distance here!

It's weird not having passed by now, because it's like attorneys don't know how to deal with me. Secretaries I deal with are very understanding, almost apologetic. However, some attorneys who know my status seem to get rather uncomfortable about it all. So as a result I just smile, be pleasant, and try to avoid having to speak with them. I'll be one some day. It's just a matter of time, right?

When I wanted to play golf this weekend, I really didn't have in mind playing in 90+ degree heat. It was only last weekend where I was freezing my ass off in a dorm room, so I don't think the body was ready for this. I probably also got a half dozen mosquito bites as well as dehydration and exhaustion. And it seemed like such a good idea at the time. Oh, and the cut on my leg from hunting for my golf ball. And that was only the 2nd hole. Winged Foot it wasn't.

I'm knee deep in Property and found this particularly appropriate, and somewhat sad really. You know you have no life when...upon hearing on the news that the NYS Court of Appeals has upheld the adverse possession statute in NY, you whoop and holler like it was really good news. Yup, that's me.

I get up, go to work, come home, eat, and study. Each day is pretty much the same. I feel like I'm falling down a hole. I don't think I'm any further along than I was before. I don't feel any smarter certainly. Guess I'll keep on keeping on. Not much else I can do.

Sorry I haven't written lately, but I just got back last night from reunion-izing with my spouse's classmates. Got to spend 4 days in a college dorm, drinking, dancing, eating pizza, and freezing my ass off. It might have been June, but you'd never know it. I brought flip flops and a jeans jacket. Yes, I was sadly unprepared for the weather. However, it was still a good time. I did learn some important rules from this reunion. If it's your 50th reunion, you get to bitch about anything and everything. You know you're old when your class gives you a dorky rain hat as the registration gift. (Us, we got messenger bags, corkscrews, and water bottles.) Rock Lobster is still fun to dance to. A dorm room is fun for about 6 hours. I am very glad to have my own shower. And most importantly, bring clothes for three seasons, not just one. Hope your weekend was warmer.

Things are going pretty well. I'm doing a lot of little menial tasks, but it both fills my day and feeds my OCD tendencies. I can sit and tweak the databases all day long. I spend my lunch hour outdoors snacking on Greek food, or Caribbean food, or whatever grabs my fancy while I sit and study my notes. Today's my spouse's birthday, so I got home in time enough to go out to dinner. And no, my spouse is not devil spawn. Remember, it's D-Day. Me? Time's a-wasting. Back to the Barbri notes.

Tomorrow is my first day of work. I'm nervous. I really want to make a good impression in the hopes of parlaying this position into something more permanent. Also, my local gym has seemingly closed. This was after receiving a letter stating that it had "merged" with another local gym. I thought this would be good in that it would give me more places to go, but when I stopped into one of the new locations I was informed that the real reason we got the letter was because our gym closed. This ought to make for interesting billing. Luckily, our contract was up shortly. This new gym thinks it ends in December. Either way, I can go to this new location on the way to work...and I think I will. It's a new start all the way around for me.

Life is looking up here at the house of Bean. It seems I might have a temp job that lasts more than a day! I actually am going to work at a law firm, albeit in their marketing department. I'm rather interested to see what goes on in a marketing department of a law firm, since my experience is definitely not business based. This should be educational. This is going to make studying for the Bar a bit more interesting. However, I'm not upset by the prospect since I always did better in school when I had a bunch of things on my plate instead of being left to my own devices. And goodness knows the bank account could use it. So onward and upward!
